With Ingrid, outside London to the southeast

Ingrid lives about 25 minutes outside London in East Paddock. East Paddock? Darnit, now I'm not sure if that's right and I don't feel like getting up to check it.

Anyway, Ingrid lives a bit outside London in a very cute house in a very cute village. We had a fun and busy day and a half with her! She picked us up at the train station and we headed off to a very old medieval city, which remains today as an adorable, walkable town with pubs, sweets shops, antiques, miscellany, other miscellany, and an old castle and church.

This castle was built in 1249! So..... 243 years before Columbus sailed to the new world, this thing was here.

Here's Jodi and me on one of the adorable streets. All of this used to be inside the walls of the city.

Fish and Chips spot! (of course)

The next day we went to Ingrid's favorite little pub by her house, which Jodi actually said served her the best meal of the trip so far. Take THAT, Queen Mary 2! ;-)

Of course, it was built hundreds of years ago when people were shorter. Jodi and I couldn't come close to standing up straight in there, and neither could most of the workers. Gotta love it!

On one of the really low beams in this pub, this old placard thingy was attached. It's from J Thomas, honorary Secretary of Nawoort Golf and Country Club... dated 30th June, 1862.
Either the English had their dry with in 1862, or this was a mistake... maybe J Thomas' last act as Secretary!
