A quick post here - we're supposed to be heading to dinner now, but after spending two attempts (of 9 and 5 minutes each) to upload a photo, I want to make sure it gets posted! (275 K small sized photo too! But it is actually amazing we have any connection here - we're a long ways from anywhere, and Jill's USB modem-satellite-whatever it is works here!)
We're on the road - Scott and Jill took Thursday and Friday off of work and we've been driving around to different areas of Rwanda. Our first stop was Kibuye - in the northwest of the country on beautiful Lake Kivu. Scott is one amazing driver: it was constant turns and mountains the whole way (2.5 hours?) which would drive most drivers crazy enough. Add to it a country population in the millions that all use the road to get from place to place. I don't think there was ever less than 8 people in view, and usually so many that the only place to drive is down the middle of the road, with some polite honking to let bicyclists know not to swerve (which there is a lot of) into the car as you go by. Bravo Scott!
The Cormoran Lodge was amazing - bungalows overlooking the lake, super comfy beds and comforters. :-) We did a quick kayak out on the lake - turns out steering a double with no rudder (broken kayak) isn't easy, but it was fun to circle one of the many islands in the lake.
More posts later wth Gisenyi (another town), and tomorrow - we're off to trek to the gorillas! YEAYYYYY!
