Jingle Bells, Crazy Bavarian Style

Konstantin is part of a group that gets together most years for a "Winter Sports Club".    They typically rent a bobsled and luge tracks in Switzerland or Austria,  and have a crazy fun time going down the tracks in various "competitions":   skeleton,  luge, and lunchtray  (yes,  your typical cafeteria tray).     It sounds NUTS - with starting points on the luge track varying from the "kids mark" starting lower on the track,  to the womens mark starting mid track,  and a handfull of the guys start at the top of the official competitive luge track.   I'm not exactly sure how safe this is - they say it's "safe" but then they tell stories about skinned noses,  wipeouts that feel like a car accident,  and bad leg bruises that turn into pulmonary embolisms.   In any case - it's something they are all quite passionate about and it's a good sized group of friends that do this every year.

This year I think they aren't doing it,  but the group got together at a little basement Bavarian restaurant/bar and Konstantin and his fiance Sarah invited us along.     Fun, fun, crazy night! (Chris sez.... they wear silly hats to this event, which is a specialty of mine

One highlight that stays with  Jodi's love of new tasty foods:   fondue.    Now this isn't just any fondue.    They order the cheese and white wine fondue,  which arrives with bread and vegetables to dip in it.    BUT THEN,   they order shots of kirsch  (a very strong clear alcohol),  and dip the bread in the kirsch, then in the fondue.    It's like half a shot of strong liquor in every cheese gooey delicious bite.    Our tablemates were kind enough to share a few bites,  but somehow it was hard to get excited about the schnitzel on our plates after tasting that.

The highlight of the night was the entertainment.     During the whole happy hour and dinner there was an older gentleman in lederhosen playing traditional German music, singing, etc.    And then came the bells.    Cowbells.      You've got to see the video to really appreciate it!   (the song is the Do-Re-Me song) <<<due to slow Africa internet, the video will have to wait... here's a fuzzy picture!>>>
